The Giving USA Foundation releases its 2006 statistics.

The Giving USA Foundation has released its "Giving USA 2007" yearbook of philanthropy, revealing that donors gave an estimated $295.02 billion in 2006—nearly $12 billion more than in 2005, or a 4.2% increase over 2005 figures. Benevon is proud to be a contributor to this annual report.

Statistics from 2006:

  • Giving by individuals was the largest single source of donations, accounting for $222.89 billion or 75.6% of all estimated giving in 2006. This is an increase of 4.4% over the previous year.

  • Approximately 65% of households with incomes below $100,000 gave to charity.

  • Charitable bequests totaled $22.91 billion for the year, making up 7.8% of total donations. When added to the giving statistics for living individuals, it represents 83.4% of all estimated giving in 2006.
